Beginning Sewing Part 3: My First Tote Bag
This is the third class in our Beginning Sewing series.
There are so many fun things to do with bags and this very easy tote is a great springboard for other ideas. You will need to purchase your materials prior to the class or come to class a little early and purchase what you need. We have all the materials available at the Quilt Barn.
What you'll learn in this class:
~ Types of fabric
~ Interfacing and stabilizers
~ Constructing straps
~ Boxed corners
~ You will sew a lined tote bag
What You Need to Bring to Class:
(The materials listed below are available for purchase at the Quilt Barn. Please purchase the materials before the class begins. If you need to purchase the materials the day of the class, feel free to come when the shop opens at 9:30)
- 5/8 yard medium-weight fabric (drapery or upholstery fabric is suitable for this tote or you can use a lighter-weight fabric if you also use a stabilizer such as fusible fleece). Please call the Quilt Barn (254-829-7119) with your questions.
- 5/8 yard cotton or poly/cotton for lining
- Thread(s) to match outer fabric and lining
- Optional: magnet snap for bag closure (prong insertion is easiest to install). For a prong insertion magnet you wil also need a scrap of any type if fusible interfacing.

Materials Included: | No. Please bring the materials listed above. You can choose to use our Bernina 830's or bring your own sewing machine if you prefer. |
