Flowers and More Flowers

Choose to make the small size (beginning with 8" squares) or the medium size (beginning with 10" squares). The runner made from the small kit finishes at 32" long and the runner made from medium kit finishes at 41" long.

Prerequisite:

  • Got Scraps? Class or knowledge of how to construct the Less Than Traditional circle units

Before the Class:
  • Before you come to class, you'll need to stitch, turn and press 4 circles using the basic Less Than Traditional method (materials list below). Make the circles with the green/background fabric on one side and the flower color fabric on the other. Cut the slit on the green/background fabric only. Sew turn and press 4 circle units, but do not machine quilt the circles. You will need 4 circles for the class, but will need 12 circles to finish the runner at home.

What You Need to Bring to Class:
  • Less Than Traditional Tool Kit (Small or Medium)
  • Less Than Traditional Flowers and More Flowers Book
  • At least 4 stitched, turned and pressed circles
  • For flower centers: small piece of fabric to make yo-yo or small buttons or beads
  • Remaining flower color fabric - you will use this to make the extra petals!
  • Thread to match flower color fabric
  • Scissors
  • Long pins
  • Your favorite quilt marking tool to mark the quilting template. It will need to show up on your flower fabric.

Materials for the runner using the small kit (starts with 8" square):
  • 3/4 yard green or other color fabric for background. Cut into twelve 8" x 8" squares (make the slit on only these squares).
  • 1 1/2 yards flower color. Cut out twelve 8" x 8" squares and save remaining fabric to make extra petals.
  • Twelve 8" squares fusible batting (we prefer Hobbs Fusible Batting)

Materials for the runner using the medium kit (starts with 10" square):
  • 1 yard green or other color fabric for background. Cut into twelve 10" x 10" squares (make the slit on only these squares).
  • 2 yards flower color fabric. Cut out twelve 10" x 10" squares and save remaining fabric to make extra petals.
  • Twelve 10" squares fusible batting (we prefer Hobbs Fusible Batting)
